Herbert Mundin - 'The Man of 1000 Faces' - in scenes from his many films and plays
This website is a tribute to Herbert Thomas Mundin, the English character actor and comedian who was born in St.Helens, Lancashire in 1898 and brought up in St.Albans, Hertfordshire. After serving in the Royal Navy during the Great War, Herbert was talent-spotted by impresario André Charlot while performing his comic routines in a concert party in Eastbourne and he spent the 1920s on the stage.
His theatrical career included appearances in character sketches and performances of musical monologues in many revues and plays that took place in London, New York and Australia. Throughout the 1930s, Herbert Mundin became a film actor and was cast in over sixty films, often to provide comic relief. Known as 'Tommy' to his family and friends, critics dubbed him "The Man of 1000 Faces" and "The Great Hollywood Scene Stealer".
I have collected dozens of photographs of Herbert over the last few years and am delighted to share them. If you are able to contribute any more photos or information, please do contact me. Thank you! - Stephen Wainwright (site owner, St.Helens, England)
